Looking to strengthen your ground game? Nobody ever plans on going to the ground in a fight, but if it happens (and most will) its good to know what to do when you’re down there!
You’ll gain confidence & discipline as you learn to effortlessly hold down an opponent, escaped from positions, get back up to your feet, or submit them with joint locks and chokes. Safety is a priority in this class (as is all others), and students are to encouraged progress at their own rate.
Our focus is primarily self defense based, not competition or tournaments, although we support any students who wish to compete.
Earning Rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
For those who wish to mark the progress of their journey, KSK offers a traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belt progression fully endorsed by Professor Chet Schemahorn (4th degree Black Belt under the Gracie family).
White Belt (0 - 4 Stripes)
Blue Belt (0 - 4 Stripes)
Purple Belt (0 - 4 Stripes)
Brown Belt (0 - 4 Stripes)
Black Belt (0 - 10th Degree)
KSK's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Lineage
We are very fortunate at KSK Martial Arts to be under the guidance of Professor Chet Schemahorn for Jiu-Jitsu. He is a 4th degree Black Belt and certified Full Instructor under the Gracie family (founders and pioneers of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu).
Professor Schemahorn was the very first Non-Brazilian to earn his Black Belt from the Gracie Family as an affiliate student, and is currently the only affiliate instructor under Gracie’s allowed to promote his own students to the level of Black Belt as well. He owns & operates schools in Fort Wayne, IN. and LaGrange, IN., and travels the US teaching seminars.
Guro T. Kent Nelson has been studying with him since 2010, and has trained several of his own students up to the levels of Blue Belt and Purple Belt with Prof. Chet’s endorsement. Along with monthly traveling to Schemahorn’s schools in Indiana, Guro Kent also brings him in to teach seminars at the KSK headquarters in Lansing, MI. 3-4 times a year.
